ASUS Transformer TF101-A1 review

ASUS Transformer TF101-A1 review

ASUS Transformer TF101-A1 10.1-Inch Tablet (Dock Sold Separately)

I bought a transformer with a keyboard from Amazon recently, before I bought it, I'm on the fence between the tablet and iPad2 has not been released, Toshiba Tablet Android, I have a difficult time deciding between the tablet and an intern in the iPad2 During this power adapter, since I have some money invested with Apple / iTunes, because I iPhone4, but the ability to run the flash and a GPS unit. The external microSD memory and a larger screen with higher resolution is a factor that I'm not a fanboy Apple or Google, I just want to make things work and make life easier or just for fun.

First, the display is very nice and strong. It 'sa bit of it, and reflects a bit' and also a fingerprint magnet. There is also a lack of good taste, as his fingers glide will not be as easy as you might expect. But these are minor quibbles, I do not think back of the shell, as some others have commented that it looked cheap. It feels good to me.

When Tablet meets Keyboard

One major disadvantage is the result of weak WiFi I have a Dlink N router and none of the laptop or my iPhone with the performance of any work around my house the tablet. I often sign of the strength of the WiFi signal is cut off from time to time I changed my router to use a different channel, which seemed to help the reliability of the connection. The data rate is not good in general, but with WiFi is the only lifeline. But it is expected that works better.

The video playback at 1080p resolution is not good either. I tried streaming from DLNA and 1080p movies microSD and frame rates are changing very quickly. It is possible to obtain a second video and about 2 seconds from freezing. Playback of DVD quality video is not good enough, but not frozen. It does not seem very smooth. With the latest update to the hive 3.1 has been updated to play videos. But it does not solve the problem with video playback. I'll try a few movies to 720p to see if that helps.

This is my first experience with something like Google Android Google Earth browser or operating system with touch screen interface and seamless experience that is close. But it needs more polish everything. When I pinch and zoom in on Google Earth, will not expand or curly hair in that area at the center of the screen. You can pinch and zoom in on the e-mail. Browser support for Flash, some websites will not recognize it as a real browser and redirect you to the mobile version of their site so you can not access the flash version of their site. When you have a website with flash seem to slow anything else that constitutes a nuisance for the application, some people prefer to work in portrait or landscape orientation and you can move seamlessly with both applications. a bit 'It's a pain to switch to video mode with a keyboard attached. I also had other shortcomings that my keyboard disappear and become inactive until I use the tablet and plug it back and I was up to block some with a video toggle WiFi / disable it. Not sure what to put in some time, overall, 3.1 Android still feels unfinished.

It 'sa bit disappointing in the end, I took one star off for the Android experience is not over and the other star players off to a great performance / range of WiFi and 1080p, which is important for me. The only glimmer of hope is that these problems can be fixed with these updates in the future. Then again, maybe I have a bad or my expectations were too high.

05/06/2011 Update: you can pinch / zoom in the browser by disabling the automatic option in your browser. 720P, but the movie bogs down when changes are hard on the video. The pace of change in every second of very subtle, but noticeable in a flat pan in a slow than 720 videos from DLNA works well, the browser Youtube video is pretty good. The network also falls for any reason. I just realized that there is no easy way to print from the tablet.

Update 07/20/2011: Just update the firmware seems to fix the WiFi was not picking my wireless after resuming from sleep mode. Not sure what the update fixes.

Update 29/08/2011: Applied 3.2 update a couple of weeks ago and just updated with new firmware, I'm happy to say that the player 720 is fixed. The strange thing is that some of the 1,080 players have got a little 'worse. In the past, the file will be loaded and played with a lot of choppiness 1080 this file is not loaded at all. Take a step back so that it does not work properly to begin with.

In addition, a battery with docking stations have improved considerably. Before the upgrade, the tablet will run out of juice, 1.5 days on the tablet + docking station is only sleeping. So far it's been about 3-4 days, and also has a battery life of approximately 70% of the rest.
